Douglas Sirk was born in Germany in 1900 and worked in the theater industry in the early 1920s. In 1922 he supervised his first work - adapted from Hermann Bosdorff's station master Mas des Als and since that he has become one of the most respected theater directors of Weimar in Germany. After that, in 1934, he served as the film director of Ufa, Germany's largest studio at the time. In 1941, Sark left Germany and began to serve as a director in Hollywood. His early movies like the Second World War drama "Hitler's Madman" (1942) had been forgotten for a long time. These early movies are different types - he is a war movie (a mysterious submarine), a historical drama (a scandal in Paris), a black movie (temptation and sleep, my love), even a music comedy (a little French). It represents Sirk's talent as a filmmaker working in Hollywood's studio system, even though these movies do not make great success or commercial success.
