Dombey and Son

Dombey and Son deal with Dombey and Son companies. Wholesale, Retail, Export Dombey and Son are the seventh novel of Dickens, written in 1848. Martin Chuzzlewit precedes it, and David Copperfield follows it. Most people are unfamiliar with Dombey and Son, but this novel is very popular among readers and is considered to be the first novel that reflects the maturity of Dickens (Schlicke, 280). The novel starts with the Donby family, consisting of Fanny Donby, her husband, Paul Donby, their little girls, Florence, and their newly born son, Paul.

For a man imprisoned in his own pride, persuasive explanation, Dombey and his son investigated the catastrophic impact of emotional deprivation on dysfunctional families and society as a whole. In his introduction Andrew Sanders explains the characteristics of Paul Dobe, the business relationship and family relationship between Dong Bei and his son, and the similarity with Dickens' childhood.

In an excerpt from David Dickens' "Dombey and Son", the man's wife has just bore their newborn, and he is already planning the future of his son. Through a godly view, the reader saw Dombey's arrogance and felt pity for his wife and son. Dickens used the rhetoric to tell him and his idea. The use of the vocabulary and details of Dickens shows the fistiness that the reader finds and dislikes in Dombey. He told his wife that their son "is named" Paul and the common abbreviation AD stands for "anno Dombei - and son". His ignorance of his wife 's view shows that he truly is concerned about her. His future plan is basically to trace his own footprints and take over their company "Dombey and Son". He thinks "the sun and the moon is to make them shine", they are the center of the "inevitable system". Basically, Dombey is a high God that everyone admires.

First of all, I would like to discuss the importance of rhetoric in Dickens's "Dombey and Son". Because Victorian society respects the power of language and language, Dickens has always been regarded as a master of rhetoric. His unique words are fully embodied in the novel "Dombey and Son". According to Aristotle, "In any case, the law can be defined as an available persuasive means" (Aristotle 2004, 6). Aristotle proposed three persuasion methods: linking the spirit, sadness and signs of tragic emotions to emotional appeal, the author and the reader. In order to make it more effective and make his sentences more persuasive, Dickens applied this rhetoric model to his work in an attempt to convince the reader by attracting their emotions. Dickens plays the emotions of his readers with tragedy to build ideal emotions among readers and to let them accept his ideas.
