District and School Improvement

Better schools build better communities and increase the chances of students succeeding. Our work on school improvement and effectiveness includes a wide range of issues including comprehensive school reform, high school improvement, transformation, standards based reform, and policies and practices that affect teacher efficiency I will.

We recently observed and interviewed the leaders of the school districts of big cities who started modifying school improvement policy in this district. In pursuing their goals, the leaders we chose learned a lot from the 2010 book "Organizational Improvement School: Lesson from Chicago". Organizing school improvement based on a longitudinal study of hundreds of schools provides a framework for improving schools and points out five fundamental support for reform. The Deputy Director and all Deputy Directors read the book, met several times and set up five necessary assistance in the school improvement plan document. Regional officials we interviewed reported that this book provided a series of "general vocabularies about effective school characteristics" that were previously missing in the central office. The words "five basic support" and "lesson of Chicago" have penetrated the discussion in multiple regions
