New research by Brigham Young University showed that preschoolers are more susceptible to the stereotypes of sex which may be problematic when watching Disney Princess movies or playing with Disney Princess' toys.
The behavior of this stereotype itself is not too bad, but it may have catastrophic effects, especially for women, in the long run.
In a study published in a child developmental study by Child Development Professor Sarah M. Coyne, 198 children were studied in two points about one year apart. According to the New York magazine, 96% of girls and 87% of boys are familiar with some Disney media.
According to BYU News, more than 61% of girls play princess toys at least once a week, but only 4% are playing the princess's toys.
The study interacted with the princess and discovered that there was a link between a boy and a girl who claimed stereotypical sexual behavior. For girls this means to believe that cookware, dolls, tea sets are for girls only.
"We know that girls who strongly insist on the stereotypes of women's sex feel that they can not do it," Coyne told BYU News. "They are not so confident, they can do well in mathematics and science, and they rarely try."
This study also examined how the Disney Princess influences the perception of the body image. This shows that her self-esteem worsens as the girl has a long-term relationship with the princess.
"Disney Princess represents some examples of thin ideals of contact," Coyne said. "As a woman, we can get it in our lifetime, and it really starts at the Disney Princess Floor and is three and four years old."
However, all the findings are not negative. This survey revealed that Disney Princess has a positive influence on boys. A boy who interacts with the princess has better physical self-esteem and is more useful to others. The study shows that the princess is balanced against superhero culture for boys.
So, Coyne suggests clearing all Disney according to these findings? It is not exactly. "Everything must be moderate," she said. "Princess is one of many things they want to do."
Most girls were introduced to the Disney Princess at an early age, but most parents do not know that all Disney Princesses are not a good example of modern society. The Princess of the day was an amazing example, but since then many views have changed women's expectations rather than the expectations of some people; the people of today's society have weather and the princess hold for today It is accepted for young people who can discuss some qualities.
