Different Theories Proposed to Account for the Iron Age Bog Bodies

There are many unanswered questions surrounding the body phenomenon of the Northern Europe marshes, such as "How, Why, Why are these bodies immersed in moisture?" (Turner, R. C, Scaife, R. G (ed.), 1995, p. 169). Despite massive evidence, there is no simple answer to explain the body of the Iron Age. However, there are four major competition theories that provide a possible reason. Sacrifice theory, punishment theory, boundary theory, and theory of chance death. In this paper, further examination and critically analyzing all these competition theories can draw the most convincing and reasonable solution to the mystery of Iron Age Swamp B.

Judging from the evidence provided, it is clear that these Northern European Iron Age communities intentionally placed dead or sacrificed corpses in wetlands, but because there is no unified practice, their importance It is difficult to generalize. Peat wetlands may need active excavation to protect these bodies from damage and to understand the extent of wetland burial.
