Self-esteem is an important part of humanity and an important benchmark for mental health (Clay, Vignoles, & Dittmar, 2005; Tirlea, Truby, & Haines, 2013). Complex combinations of factors influence self-esteem, including self-evaluation based on success, appearance, intelligence, human relations and other person's perceptual evaluation (defined as an overall positive or negative value of an individual ). As you can imagine, there are various factors that may affect self-esteem. Genetic factors contributing to shaping the overall character can work, but often our experience forms the basis of global self-esteem. For example, those who continue to accept caregivers, families and friends who are overly critical or negatively appraised may experience low self esteem.
How people perceive themselves and evaluate self-worth and self-esteem depends on people. However, there are many factors that may affect individual's self-esteem, including family therapy, group therapy, even even media. It seems that there is a possibility that a factor has a greater influence on self-esteem than other factors. Social psychologists seem to agree that the social environment (although having its effect) has a slight impact on self esteem. Schmitz believes (2006) that the way to treat children at home will have a major impact on the development and lack of self-esteem. In addition, other research seems to have similar conclusion; Belobrykin (2003) conducted a study to survey self-esteem and its influencers, concluding that teachers and parents are the main influencing factors of self-esteem .
According to researchers, there are three main factors that contribute to the height of self-esteem. These factors are independent of each other, but how they influence and build self-esteem is interrelated. These factors are control points, attribution and acceptance, and ability. Control point: A control point is a sense of control over human life and behavior. The source of human control develops from the causal relationship of learning. As we get older, we begin to recognize that our actions can lead to success that can lead to success (bad things) and failures (bad things). Those who believe that others and their environment are responsible for their success and failure have points of external management. People with internal control points will feel that they control their lives and destinies.
