Kate Chopin was born in Kate Off Lahti and brought up in St. Louis, Missouri. She is the third child of five children and the only child in the family who lived to 25 years old. Chopin grew up during the Civil War, so I parted with Kitty Garrish, one of her friends who met at Sacred Heart University. Chopin's family supports the south with slaves.
