Deregulation of the aviation industry The airline industry is undergoing intense price competition to deregulate and as a result a large number of new telecommunications carriers specializing in regional services and low cost business are born. These operators typically purchase older aircraft and often operate outside the industry-wide computerized reservation system. In exchange for these inconveniences, passengers charge lower fares compared to the industry as a whole. In this survey we looked at two low fare airlines, ValuJet and Southwest Airlines.
