The school district is located in Denton, Denton County, and has a long history. In 1882, voters passed a $ 15,000 public bond election to fund Denton's first public school construction. The structure is three stories, made of red brick. This region continues to grow and is currently one of the fastest growing school districts in northern Texas. Denton ISD consists of four general high schools, seven junior high schools, 23 elementary schools, two nursery schools, alternative high schools, advanced technical complex, and other vocational schools and centers. The eighth junior high school, named after Dr. Rudy and Dr. Rosemary Rodriguez, will be approved by voters as part of the 2013 bond program and will begin in the 2017-18 academic year.

Jeremiah Andrew Denton Jr. was born in Mobile, Alabama on July 15, 1924. He is one of the three sons of Jeremiah and Irene Steele Denton. His father is a store clerk at the hotel and often going out and the boy attended 13 elementary schools. In 1936, his father left his family and returned to Mobil where his parents divorced in 1938. Jeremiah entered the McGill University of a long and narrow high school. He studied at Mobil Spring Mountain College. However, he entered the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1943, graduated from the engineering department with honors in 1946.
