When should the government obtain our loyalty and when should it be rejected? This course explores the main answer to this problem in the modern Western world. We first investigate the main political theory of enlightenment: tradition of utilitarianism, Marxism, and social contract. In each case, we first look at the classical expression, put it in the historical context, and then turn to the contemporary discussion on today's politics. Next, we reject the enlightenment of political thought and we will explore classical and modern expressions again. In the last part of the course, I will explain the essence of democratic politics and the rationale, and the relationship between the Enlightenment and anti-enlightenment political thought.
