Zora Neale Hurston's short story "Sweat" is about a woman Delia, her husband Sykes being physically and mentally abused. Through all abuses, Delia is proud of her diligence and her religion. In this story, Heston uses religious and moral symbols to control the behavior of characters throughout the plot. Delia is a diligent woman who uses her belief in God to guide and protect her from carefully abusing her husband.

"Sweat" is a short story by American writer Zola Neil Hurston, first published in literary magazine Fire !! 1926. In the center of the story is a laundry woman, Delia, in a small town in the central state of Florida. Deria's husband, Sykes, did not work and he did not insult. He dislikes the fact that Delia must wash white clothes. He scares Delia by playing horror to her snake and often defeats her. Delia decided that she did not need Sikes in her life, Sykes decided to ask for freedom with her mistress Bertha. Sykes tried to kill Delia by concealing rattlesnake in her laundry basket. However, with the distortion of fate, Saikes himself was bitten by a snake. When Sykes was in danger of dying, Delia ignored Sykes' request, waited for him to die, and sat down in the banyan tree.

Delia and Sykes continue tragic marriage and continue discussion. When Sykes went home as a pet rattlesnake things went worse and decided to torture Delia somehow. Delia hopes Sykes to get rid of snakes day by day, but he refused. One night, Delia classified his clothes and she found a snake in the washing basket. She ran away from the house, climbed a hay cabin and fell asleep there. She woke up by Sykes, and Sikes was breaking the wire snake box over the pile. She looked at Sykes and entered the house where the rattlesnake that had escaped slowly was still loose. She listened to him calling her name and walked to the door she saw that Sykes was deadly bitten by rat rattlesnake. At this point, Delia felt a series of complex emotions. On the other hand, she was shocked at seeing her swollen neck. Despite her husband's bad treatment she felt compassioned to her husband when she saw that he claimed to be alive.
