Cities and farm villages> Men living in cities: Total number of men living in cities. The definition of the city itself differs from country to country, but usually it excludes areas with legal boundaries, some form local governments, suburban suburbs and areas in the suburbs. This figure contains only cities with population over 100,000. Population> CIA profile per capita: This entry is based on statistics on census, demographic registration system, or recent sample survey and future trends and is estimated by the US Census Bureau. The total population is an overall measure of the potential impact the country has on the world and its region. Note: Starting with the 1993 profile, the demographic estimates of many countries (mainly African countries) explicitly take into account the increasing influence of HIV / AIDS epidemics.

Trends in cities and major urbanization Given the diversity of cities around the world, there is no unified definition of city composition. Each country defines the city according to its own standard. Also note that due to gap and measurement problems related to city data, the international comparison of forecast accuracy, urbanization level and urban population size is restricted. Box III.1 describes various criteria for defining urban and data problems.

Different definitions, cited population, population density, number of houses, economic function and infrastructure are used to categorize population by census. The general population definition of cities ranges from 1,500 to 50,000 and most US states use at least 1,500 to 5,000 inhabitants. However, some jurisdictions do not specify such minimum requirements. In the UK, the position of the city is awarded according to local standards. According to "functional definition", cities are influenced not only by their size but also by their role in a larger political context. The city plays a role as a surrounding area as the center of administration, commerce, religion and culture. Examples of settlements known as cities may not meet all the traditional criteria, such as Broad Top City (pop 452) in Pennsylvania or City Dulas from Anglesey.
