Defining Social Roles for Men and Women in India through Traditional Hindu Texts

In the context of Indian traditional male Hindu texts, I discuss social roles of men and women in families, rituals and creativity. I will look at the role of my husband and wife, and goddess and king. The main traditional texts that support these roles are Rg Veda, Kalpa Sutras, Epic (Ramayana and Mahabharata), Tryambaka and Manu Smrti. They are the foundation of social order and are considered to make people understand their responsibilities.

Through centuries of tradition, men and women have been able to define sexual roles in society. Several critics have argued that the role of gender does not exist today, but others believe that they exist. In society, men and women are defined by the role of men and women through activities and emotions. Doctors are usually drawn in men, but women raise their children and cook them for men. Among these roles, men are supporters of families and women take care of their families and children. These codes of conduct are inherited from generation to generation. As men and women share much of the same responsibilities, the role of sex has changed dramatically over time, but many families and countries still play a traditional role.
