Defining Martyrdom

In the mid 18th century Pope Benedict XIV defined martyrdom and outlined the characteristics of martyrs. According to the Pope, the martyrs said, "believers who die for faith, especially murderers (" tyrants "... ...) are motivated by the beliefs of hatred" (Peterson, 93). In addition, for martyrs, it is not enough to die for one reason; instead, he must be observed as a person who refuses to give up is a belief. Many Muslim and non-Muslim scholars and theologians misunderstand the concept of martyrdom in Islam. Because Islam has introduced its own martyrdom, it is important to understand the concept of martyrdom in the Islamic structure. Because these two words are repeatedly used in the Quran, the sacred cause and the struggle for the concept of martyrdom are interrelated. In fact, without a struggle against God's truth and cause, Muslims do not have martyrdom. The key word here is "truth", struggle and struggle, its recognition and declaration, and the intention to die for the truth.
