From 1840 to 1872, Scottish missionary David Livingston made a series of explorations focusing on Congo in Western European countries. During these trips, Livingstone has been away from Europe for two years. New York Herald asked Henry Morton Stanley to search for him. The two met in Uji Temple on the east coast of the lake Tanganyika in 1871. Three years later, Stanley was asked to continue exploration started in Livingstone.
