Dante's Sense of Irony

In hell, we follow the journey of Dante, and he goes out to hell from the way of moral truth. Virgin Mary and St. Lucia urged Dante's dead to seek more help than Atlas. Like Dante and Virgil, Beatrice is equivalent to a historical figure. The details of her life is still uncertain, but we know that Dante is passionately in love with her as a young man. Her role in Inferno is limited, but it is more prominent in Purgatorio and Paradiso. Indeed, the purpose of Dante's imaginary journey throughout the world after death was to find a Beatrice that disappeared on earth for her early death. Critics generally believe that Beatrice is a moral expression of spiritual love.
