Dangerous Offenders Legislation

Queensland's new dangerous prisoner (sex offender) law (2003) allowed prisoners to be held in jail after the release date. The court judged that there is a high possibility of bringing "serious danger" to the community. In other jurisdictions similar laws have been enacted that limit the release of prisoners judged as dangerous. Do you think this dangerous law is reasonable or irrational? Several states throughout the country have tried to enact or enact laws to extend prisoners' detention until the release date.

Legislation of dangerous criminals is a typical example of rehabilitation benefits. Its purpose is to allow dangerous offenders, usually those who are considered to be the most serious, mistreated and distorted offenders, to be imprisoned until they show psychological improvement irrespective of their sentences.
