Roald Dahl was born in 1916 in Villa Mary, Fairwater Road, Randolph, Cardiff, Wales, Norway parents, Harald Dahl and Sophie Magdalen (Hesselberg). Dahr's father moved from Sarpsborg in Norway to the UK and emigrated to Cardiff in the 1880s. His mother died in 1911 and married his father. Dahl was named after Norway polar explorer Roald Amundsen. His primary language is Norwegian, and he is talking home with his parents and his sisters Astri, Alfhilt and Ells. Dahl and his sisters grew up in Lutheran faith and were baptized in the Norwegian church in Cardiff where their parents worshiped.
