In 2000, the Da Vinci surgery system has become the first robotic surgical system approved by the FDA for general laparoscopic surgery and opened up a new world. This is the first time FDA has approved a wide range of surgical instruments and camera / mirror systems. The predecessor depends on a large number of surgical assistants for endoscopic use and surgery. Three-dimensional magnifying screen of the Da Vinci robotic surgical system enables the surgeon to see the surgical field at high resolution. A 1 cm diameter surgical arm represents a major advance in robotic surgery in early large systems such as PUMA 560. Using this miniaturized surgical arm, the Da Vinci robotic surgical system eliminates the need for a wall that utilizes the side of the incision. This advancement reduces the exposure between the exposed internal tissue and the surgical device, greatly reducing the risk of infection.
Da Vinci robot surgery is a technology combining these two fields. Da Vinci robotic prostatectomy compensates for several drawbacks of laparotomy and laparoscopy. For example, the visual acuity of laparoscopy is 2 - D, but the prostatectomy by Da Vinci robot is 3 - D. Three-dimensional imaging facilitates important steps of prostatectomy, such as maintenance of the sexual function of the nerve or anastomosis (the bladder sutured to the urethra). In laparotomy, the same specimen was removed, but Da Vinci robot's prostatectomy lost much less blood. I am recommending this to most patients because I am using Da Vinci's robotic prostatectomy system with my open surgical training and laparoscopic surgery techniques.
