Cultural Sensitivity: The Transition Learning Center

Teaching setup The transition learning center (TLC) is a 4 week course for disabled persons from 18 years old to 21 years old. The purpose of this program is to help students of special education transition from school to community and work world. TLC teachers, career specialists, and three counselors work with the students to achieve the promotion goals of the Individualized Education Program (IEP). TLC is located in portable equipment with kitchen, washroom with washing machine and dryer, meeting room, computer room.

Founded in 1972, the Hatren Center is a place where visually impaired children (over 18 years old) come to the immersive environment to learn skills necessary for transition from family to independent living. The resident of the center pays the rent, cooks himself, pays his bill, and is walking around using public transportation. This center always serves a small number of students, but having a group of students means to give direct one-to-one guidance for higher success rate.
