Cultural Diversity and Awareness in the American Healthcare System

Adam's parents did not believe in "analgesics" and Adam did not agree that he might feel pain after surgery. I explained, they refused to take analgesics for the patient. During the hospitalization process, I found that 18 years old Adam Nguyen was diagnosed with autism when he was two years old. Autism is a complicated brain developmental disorder. These diseases are characterized by social interactions, linguistic and nonverbal communication, and the difficulty of repetitive behavior (Autism Speaks, 2013).

Increased heterogeneity in contemporary American culture requires medical services to reflect diverse patient populations. Healthcare workers need to immediately identify and adapt to groups of people, widely known as cultural ability. Salisbury (2006) defines cultural competence as a series of policies, actions, attitudes, and practices that enable individuals and organizations to function effectively in a cross-cultural environment. Workplace diversity Today, many employers seek candidates for diversity supervisors. Research by American Progress (2012) confirms that workplace diversity stimulates economic growth, expands the consumer market, and enables companies to reach their full potential. Therefore, many contemporary vacancies state that diversity is a necessary attribute for potential applicants.

The multicultural patient group in the United States is rapidly growing. Providing a nursing culture of diverse population is a challenge for health care providers. Caring for patients based on cultural values, beliefs, practices is essential to achieving quality medical care. The diversity of medical professionals can change the workplace and cause conflicts between Canadian multicultural workplaces. There is no clear definition. A thousand years ago, Canadians were Native Americans 300 years ago, Canadians were French settlers. Today, we do not have a single definition. People moved to Canada from every corner of the globe. We are no longer wearing a coat Dubois fur cap or a British soldier. There are few Canadians who can say that they really came from North America.
