Melt-suspended crystallization (MSC) is a technique that can be used for large scale separation and super purification of organic compounds. Because of the high selectivity of crystallization, moderate operating conditions and relatively low melting latent heat, the energy consumption of these methods is low. Furthermore, the use and regeneration of toxic or explosive solvents can be avoided. As a result, MSC can be regarded as a promising technology both environmentally and economically in a wide range of industrial applications.

Scientific research on the formation of crystals and crystals is called crystallography. The process of forming crystals by crystal growth mechanism is called crystallization or solidification. The word crystal is from ancient Greek κρύσταλλος (krustallos), which means "ice" and "crystal". It comes from κρύος (kruos). Most minerals are in crystalline form. Each crystal has a regular inner atomic pattern that fixes new atoms in the pattern in its own way and repeats over and over again. The resulting crystal shape - cubes (such as salt) and hexagons (such as snowflakes) - obscure the internal arrangement of the atoms. However, students rarely find the perfect shape of mineral crystals that can be seen in museums in their own backyard.

The word "crystal" comes from the Greek word "crystal". Crystals are defined as solid materials consisting of three dimensional periodic order of atoms, molecules or ions. Crystals are formed by a process called crystallization. This represents a transition from chaos to perfection. In either case, this is a three step process. It begins with nucleation in which several molecules or atoms are brought close to each other in a proper orientation to form stable submicroscopic aggregates.
