Coping strategies identified and used by victims of flood disaster in Kolonnawa area: An analysis from a social work perspective

Coronaqua is one of the major cities affected by the flood in 2016, residents of this area lasted a couple of weeks. The purpose of this research was to study coping strategies that were identified and used by victims at the individual and regional levels. Since researchers use the social work perspective in their research, the secondary goal of research measures coping strategies that have been used from the perspective of social work and determines the difference between community-based coping strategies and state interventions . The question of the survey relates to the coping strategy that the Corona Flood victims identified and used as individuals and communities. The research questions used to gather data and information are as follows. (1) What is the coping strategy specified for each affected household? (2) What measures were taken at the individual level? (3) What measures are taken at the community level? (4) What else can be used as a coping strategy? (5) What is the role of social workers in this affected environment? Since this study used a qualitative approach, data and information were collected from 15 seriously affected households of Egoda Kolonnawa and Megoda Kolonnawa, using a convenient sampling method as a sampling method. Thirty semi-structured interviews, including gender and age-affected populations, were conducted for 15 households selected. As a data analysis method, a subject analysis method is used. The main issue derived from the data and information gathered in this study is that flood victims identify and use different coping strategies during the response and recovery phases, during which appropriate and effective national interventions are undertaken That means that it was not. There are no important assets that will be empowerment and resilience of dependents in affected communities and it is not a coping strategy to be considered through social work prisms.

The collected flood and flood response strategy information is important information for adjusting the disaster prevention process capability. In other words, local governments and local governments will be involved in developing more appropriate flood response strategies, especially by examining the characteristics of floods and existing flood response mechanisms. In addition, we can judge whether existing flood response strategies are sufficient. Many areas of Sampang Regency tend to be flooded each year, but research on floods has not been completed yet. In addition, the details for the community to overcome the flood strategy have not been confirmed any more. Municipalities usually do not investigate the flood characteristics and coping strategies of the community merely by calculating losses and losses.
