Contrasting Principles of Classical and Operant Conditioning

Learning is a very important part of psychology, which is defined as "a relatively permanent change in behavior or behavioral capacity brought about by experience" (Baron, p. 169). Learning is an important process in human behavior and it can play an important role in most activities we do. a) The difference between operational adjustment and classic adjustment is that the behavior studied with classical adjustment is reflexive (eg, craving). Classical and operating conditions share many of the same basic principles and procedures. For example, Kimble (1961) noted that both types of learning have basic principles of acquisition, extinction, natural recovery, and stimulus summaries. However, there are some differences between conventional conditions and operating conditions. Although the basic features of operational conditioning are enhanced, classical conditioning depends on the relationship between stimulus and response. The second difference is that classical conditioning often involves spontaneous reflex behavior, whereas many operational conditioning is based on spontaneous behavior. These differences are not as strong as people think. For example, Neal Miller (1978) demonstrated that non-autonomous responses such as heart rate can be corrected by operational adjustment techniques. The classic adjustment seems now to include reinforcement.
