Concerns regarding eye donation among health seekers attending a reputed eye care institution in North Kerala

Background: Increasing awareness of eye donation is a key element to promote voluntary pledge and donate eye. The plan of consciousness awareness activity depends on the lack of universal understanding on eye donation

Purpose and purpose: To evaluate the consciousness and cognition of eye care donors about eye care.

Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study of patients enrolled in an ophthalmologic clinic was conducted using pre-designed, semi-structured, self-administered questionnaires that were pre-tested.

RESULTS: The research group included 250 participants. The ratio of male to female is 1: 1. A total of 94.4% of participants asked about eye donation. A total of 71.7% is trying to donate their eyes; 90.3% do not guarantee their eyes; 63.7% are prepared to implement eye donation as family custom. People who are willing to agree and wish to donate their eyes as a family habit, more than men (P = 0.049), graduates (P = 0.013), Christians (P = 0.019), those who understand the subject ( P = 0.00)), single (P = 0.00). Given the prospects of the eye, only 6% face depression from society, relatives and relatives. A total of 66.1% of people knew that there was an eye bank registered in the laboratory. Nobility is the main motive (87.7%). A total of 61.8% believe that donated eyes can provide vision for disadvantaged people

Conclusion: This study shows that ophthalmologists are familiar with eye provision and have a good attitude toward them; most of them tend to commit to their eyes. Advise the accepting group and identify candidates of interest as volunteers to donate their eyes and promote regional donation
