Since introduction in the 1990s, Compstat has improved police operations. Compstat is a system used by police agencies to reduce crime and achieve the goals of other departments. Some of the goals of the department are to build good relationships with the community, to empower commanders and subordinates. It focuses on sharing information, responsibility, promoting accountability, and improving strategies for crime resolution. Nonetheless, it has been criticized for being incompatible with the community, lack of flexibility and compromising warning purposes, but it is still considered an important organizational development in the second half of the police activity.
Please enter compostat which is a police model we all know well now. Its origins can be traced back to the early 1990s, facing crime and confusion, the New York Police launched Compstat. From the BJA / PERF file COMPSTAT: its origin, the evolution and future of law enforcement agencies, the program emphasizes information sharing, accountability, accountability and efficiency. It contains four recognized core elements: Compstat's most famous element is its regular meeting, discussion and analysis of department heads and criminal issues and strategies to tackle them. The goal is to make the city safe, reduce the fear of crime, and improve the overall quality of life. Compstat achieved dramatic results and the crime rate dramatically declined. In the 1990s, CompStat was developed by the New York Police as an information-based system for tracking and mapping patterns and trends in crime and responsible for coping with police coping with crime. Since then CompStat has been replicated by police departments in the United States and around the world using problem-oriented policing, information-driven policing, and other information-driven policing strategies.
And police innovation developed by local agencies is not as innovative as Compstat. Compstat changed the view of crime by the police. Police first expanded their mission, including not only responding to crime after committing a crime, but also preventing crime first. The first part of this report explains what Compstat is and how to develop it. In Part 2 we explore many of the key issues related to the effective Compstat program and explain how police leaders can overcome the challenges associated with Compstat's implementation. Some principles may seem simple, but their results can have a significant impact on the ability of an agent to run meaningful Compstat plans. In Part 3 we introduce some of the views of present and former police leaders and scholars on the future of Compstat.
