This is one of the most representative moments in American history - the famous "stationary" of Appomattox. After four years of struggle, the army of Ulysses Grant finally beat the North Virginia army that Robert Lee was proud of. The surrender clause was agreed by Li and Grant on April 9, 1865, but the formal surrender ceremony will not be held until April 12.
