Compare and Contrast: The Man to Send Rain Clouds and Old Man at the Temple

When reading a different story, there are many similarities between the texts. For example, Romeo and Juliet, Piramus and Thisbe are two stories with many similarities. Through the story, the character has many of the same features. A similar incident occurred in two stories. All of these events led these two stories to a tragic end. The story may be similar in many ways. Character, scene, story line. The story may also be very different. People may talk about events that hurt your heart, and another person may smile your face.

"Send the Rain Cloud" is an Indian reservation in the southwestern part of the United States, with a large terrace (plateau) and Arroyo (gully). When the story began, Leon and his brother-in-law wanted to find an old man, Tepolo, died under the poplar tree. They painted his face with rituals and wrapped his body in their house with a red blanket for the traditional Pueblo funeral. (People in Pueblo painted the face of the deceased as recognized in the next world.They also distribute the corn and sprinkle with water to provide food and water for the spirit of another world. The end of the cycle, but part of the cycle that the spirit of death returns to its source and then returns to the earth for nutrition through the rain cloud.

"Please send rain cloud" in 1969 depicts the story that the old man and his grandchild who were found dead in the herd arranged for his funeral. Native Americans writer Silko explores the tension between the local pastor who wishes to make a traditional Indian funeral to his grandfather and the local pastor who wants to make a Catholic funeral to his grandfather. The story of Siko raises questions about tradition and modernity, the status of religion in identity and community creation, and the conflict between generations.

Theophilus is an old man who died under a big poplar tree, "a man who sent rain clouds". Theophilus is probably the most important person in the story. Because that plot contains his conflict between American Indian and Christian ways. He is an American living in a protected area in New Mexico and is very independent. He insisted on old and new way: he wore American mainstream clothes, but he also wore white hair. In her short story "The Man Who Delivers Rain Clouds", Silko considers creativity to be a source of the strengths of Native Americans, but that theme also appears in later works. In particular, the advantage of Leon is that he can creatively combine Indian rituals and Catholic rituals. He did not strictly follow the way of India but added a new element by asking a Catholic priest to pour the holy water into the tomb of Theophilus.
