Community Service

Since the early 1990s, Putney's Community Services program has partnered with small rural communities in Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, Africa and Oceania to develop projects tailored to local needs. Every year, Putney students return from overseas summer vacation and report that they learned important lessons about community service.

Get up early and unite, improve schools and community centers, repair the house for low-income households, open summer camps for local children, and immerse in the life of the host community. You can choose a course of 2, 3, or 4 weeks, work with local people, learn new skills, and build friendships across cultural and linguistic boundaries. To make Putney Community Service Program successful, you must be able to work hard, be sensitive to others, be excited about working with your community, and be able to live a simple life.
