The course in this field focuses on how people interact in different cultures and between different cultures. Communication is the core of cultural identity and expression, culture is born, maintained and changed through communication

The teachers listed below place emphasis on this research field in education and research, but most people have other fields of expertise. Many teachers other than the Department of Communications at the University of Washington also lecture and conduct research in this field, so this list is not exhaustive.

Graduate students who want to learn more about communication and culture can apply for the following communication courses. Students usually participate in other courses inside and outside the faculty. Students can develop courses focusing on various fields.

There is a clear difference between intercultural exchanges and intercultural exchanges. Communication and culture can not survive. This communication creates culture as it allows people to share insights, emotions, and experiences with each other. Therefore, communication in culture is sometimes called cultural communication, it is communication in a specific culture. As a study of communication methods, structures, processes and effects in specific cultural groups, the field of "communication" answers questions in this field. However, it has not yet developed as another research field (Eilers, 1993: 136-142).

Intercultural communication (or intercultural communication) is a field that studies the exchange between different cultures and social groups, or the influence of culture on communication. It describes a wide range of communication processes and problems that occur naturally in an organizational or social context consisting of individuals with different religious, social, ethnic and educational backgrounds. In this sense, it is trying to understand how people from different countries and cultures behave, convey and recognize the surrounding world. Many cross-cultural business communications believe that culture determines how individuals encode information, the media they choose to spread, and how information is interpreted.

The Anthropologist Hall announced that the background of all communications is a culture or a culture related to it ("Communication is culture, culture is communication") (1959, page 191). Communicator culture provides a "framework" for communication to occur. Communication is not only influenced by cultural 'words, actions, gestures, gestures, intonation, expressions' but also consists of cultural constraints of speakers such as "communication of time, space, material handling" . How to work, play, love and protect yourself "(Hall, 1976, p. 42). In order to fully understand the information to be transmitted, it is necessary to understand "behavior in historical, social and cultural contexts" (ibid).
