Perhaps the most famous social media archive project began in 2010. Since its launch in 2006, Twitter has "provided" a continuous archive of all public tweets to the Library of Congress. In addition to the early fanfare, it has generated some very needed positive PR for Twitter, but no progress seems to be done. Updates to the library blog in 2013 actively responded to the development of the archive, but by 2015 researchers have not yet been granted access. Washington's interior inside politics called the library's Twitter application project "huge # FAIL" and condemned the lack of understanding of emerging technologies

In 2010, the Library of Congress started archiving any public information posted on Twitter released in March 2006 (the day the site was created). This process was started after Twitter donated the archive to the library. Its purpose is to capture and preserve the record of knowledge and creativity for Congress and the American people. This series contains tweets for about 12 years. That said, the need to maintain such a comprehensive archive is decreasing. One of the main goals is to document the emergence and development of Twitter. It can be said that this was achieved. However, in recent years the process itself has become increasingly difficult due to the gradual combination of visuals such as large amounts of data and images, GIF, video, and other linked content. For libraries that only receive text, this is obviously difficult and therefore limited to the value of text collection.

At Randolph College in Virginia state, all the students record their experiences in electronic files as part of the Randolph Plan. The portfolio begins with admission, continues to graduate, and students are encouraged to gather artifacts from academic, co-curricular and personal experiences.
