colour-blind racism: the four frames

The following is based mainly on chapter 2 of 'Prohibition of racial discrimination' (2010) by Duke University sociology professor Eduardo Bonilla-Silva. He studied color blind socialism and this more subtle racism replaced the Jim Crow racism in the American white people since the 1960s.

Eduardo Bonilla-Silva questioned one of the white Americans born between 1940 and 1980 mostly racial issues. He noticed that at least half of the next four frames are in use.

Abstract liberalism - The key word here is "abstract". Unlike Jim Crow's racist, most Caucasians agree that all Americans, regardless of race, should have equal rights and equal opportunities. But that is just a lip service. When asked about government policies that could result in such equality, such as positive actions and buses, most Caucasians will find some reason for opposing them without providing other reliable means . Minimizing racial discrimination - Most white people believe that there is still discrimination against black people, but it is not as bad as ever, and that is no longer the main reason for blacks. Instead, this is their culture:

Cultural Racist Discrimination - Unlike Jim Crow's racist, most Caucasians do not believe that there are any biological problems in black people anymore. Instead, it is cultural: mainly accusing bad families, bad values, and bad occupational ethics - black morbid, victims. It is pointed out that black people are using racial discrimination as an excuse and looking forward to the handout materials.

Naturalization of racial discrimination - racially discriminatory behavior in society such as highly isolated schools and communities, and low racial marriages are not the result of white racial discrimination, but one of human nature It is regarded as "natural" as a part. This means that no one is wrong, you can not change it.

Mix and match the frames according to the parameters at hand. The framework will help each other. For example, minimizing racial discrimination makes it easier for abstract liberalism to be accepted. The framework can be used directly ("Black Lazy") or smarter ("difficult to become a single mother" is difficult).

Especially black people tend to imagine race discrimination rather than black people, so I think white people can judge race discrimination more than black people.

The truth is that the black people can hardly imagine. Discrimination against employment, housing, education is well documented. Regardless of race, the infringing value equal opportunities for Americans, the government should take strong action to end it.

However, Caucasians rarely say this. Instead, they use a framework to avoid saying something similar. At best they recognize discrimination, but then ignore that effect. Or they say they believe in equal opportunities, but I have found a reason to oppose any policy to achieve that.

According to Bonilla-Silva (2003) there are four color vision anomalies framework, abstract liberalism, naturalization, cultural racial discrimination and racial discrimination minimization. Abstract liberalism applies abstract concepts to colored people, but actually it happens to verify opportunities and circumstances of racial injustice. Naturalization depends on the principle of how things are because it is "natural". Cultural racial discrimination means that people believe that people should stick to their own culture in the social environment. People believe that racial discrimination is no longer the basis of social discrimination but a group or individual itself in the system.

According to an interview analysis of university students and respondents of DAS, color blind racist discrimination has four central frameworks, most white respondents use these frameworks. The four frameworks are abstract liberalism, naturalization, cultural racial discrimination and racial discrimination. Among the four frameworks, abstract liberalism is the most important because it forms the basis of a new racial ideology.
