In the field of building materials research, we provide students with a comprehensive understanding of composition, microstructure and engineering behavior of materials in civil engineering applications.

Civil engineers are usually responsible for identifying, designing, and manufacturing the materials used to build their structures. Research on building materials is aimed at helping structural engineers, transportation engineers and infrastructure engineers understand the basic characteristics of materials used.

Building materials have long been the power of Central and Eastern Europe in Illinois. Teachers in this field are leaders of specific research in collaboration with O'Hare International Airport, Federal Aviation Administration and Illinois Department of Transportation. Today, a concrete canoe competition famous for universities throughout the country was founded at the University of Illinois as a unique way to teach students building materials by professor CEE Receus Clyde Kesler at the University of Illinois.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sets the water quality problem at the forefront of international behavior by setting concrete goals (Sustainable Development Goal 6: Availability of Water and Sanitation and Secure sustainable management). We will address the immediate task of water pollution. But what is the relationship between water pollution and other sustainable development goals?

Many universities offer environmental engineering courses at Department of Chemical Engineering or Department of Chemical Engineering. "Private" engineers of the environment specialize in hydrology, water management, bioremediation, and water treatment plant design. On the other hand, environmental "chemical" engineers focus on environmental chemistry, advanced air and water treatment technology, and separation process. Several subdivisions of environmental engineering include natural resource engineering and agricultural engineering.
