The original USCGC Escanaba started adjusting the Great Lakes from 1932 to 1941 when the US Army participated in World War II. In February 1943, Escanaba and her crew proved their courage. During the war, 132 men were rescued from torpedo transport in the North Atlantic. Sadly, Escanaba will start its final duty just four months after this heroic rescue. On Monday, August 6, 2018, Wisconsin County proudly welcomed the name of the third Coast Guard's cutting machine, previously known as Escanaba. This ship is the realization of the value of the original ship and the legacy. Men County's 75th anniversary gave us the opportunity to pay respect to the four Wisconsin people who sacrificed too much for our country.
