Most people live in cities, but others live in the country. City life is usually more exciting, as there are shopping malls, restaurants, schools, transportation facilities, hospitals, etc. But what is a city? Cities are families of people who have similar characteristics and are living their daily lives. According to Caves (2005), cities can not be defined by definition because they contain many things that can give many definitions. Different cities have different ways of development and growth, and various steps are needed to enhance sustainability. Also, Dubai has proven to be a victorious city.
My problem with the concept of smart city is to speculate that cities can be "digital" or "intelligent". This opens the way to think about hyperlinks and data-driven efficiency. But the city is more than that. The city is the center of people, supported by infrastructure. Cities are places where people gather and experience the benefits of being around us. Access to services and culture is actually a benefit of urbanization. There is no doubt that it is useful to apply "information" to city infrastructure. But the conversation needs to be larger than that
Everything is connected. The way we build houses, cities and infrastructure has a big impact on human health. For example, in cities designed for car transportation, heart attacks and obesity are increasing. However, cities can be designed for connections with people, activities, and for community lifestyles. Our environment influences us in many subtle ways, writing scripts for our actions and choices. If you can only enter a shop that sells packaged food, like many people in the food desert of developed countries, you will eat packaged food. Is there any public transportation? The number of people driving will increase
Cities are groups of people with similar values and interests. Pollution, corruption, poor public transportation lives in the city, so it affects everyone either directly or indirectly. As citizens unite, less waste of time, compromise between profits (firearms management, abortion), compromise becomes meaningless and time between slightly different profits will be longer. Make a reasonable compromise. Probably the size of the city is the most effective scale for human decision making. Because everyone can still see each other, get in touch with each other, and see the direct result of the policies they support. In New York City, after the hurricane sandy, the residents are receiving decentralization of the grid by receiving subsidized insulation, rain and solar energy. Zurich was socially conservative in the early 1990s, but still provided heroin addicts methadone to wipe out Europe's largest open drug scene.
