Christopher Columbus is an Italian navigator who crossed the Atlantic Ocean and found a route to Asia to the west but became famous for landing in the Caribbean. Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy. His father is a fabric and Columbus is thought to have entered this industry as a youth. In the mid 1870's, he traveled for the first time to Chios of Aegean Sea. Settled in Lisbon, his brother Bartholomew was the mapmaker there, and he married the daughter of the Governor of Porto Santo in 1479.
