Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to introduce various examination techniques to students to deal with the general problem in identifying unknown bacteria. The laboratory helps students understand the biochemical and molecular differences of bacteria and introduces the concept of identifying species based on characteristic genetic sequences. Students work through two types of identification procedures. One is classical one and the other is DNA sequence. And the results of the two methods are compared. The academic research laboratory was created to supplement the theme of bacterial genetics and biochemistry. The main topics covered in the lecture related to this experiment are prokaryotic replication, transcription and translation, enzymatic function and cellular respiration. The laboratory is tailored to the second semester of the new students and they are in the first term of the introductory biology course of the third semester. This lab is designed for 500 students and is divided into 20 lab sections.
