Character Sketch of The Sniper

A sketch of a character of a sniper war. Death pain anger and regret. Everyone is not happy, but we face it every day dealing with it. In Liam O'Flaherty's "Sniper" all these were brought to a clear reality. In order to help him cause this emotional confrontation O'Flaherty depicted the sniper as a very controversial personality. By observing the appearance, movement, idea, we can see the contrast of this personality. "... ... the face of the student, thin and indifferent, ... the eyes are full of enthusiastic indifference." So the sniper is explained in a physical sense.

As everyone knows, every story has a hero. In the story of "sniper", the hero is only a sniper. There are other personality such as old lady being information provider, and of course there are many other enemies, mainly military. In the story of "the most dangerous game", the main character is General Saint Glenford and General Zarrof, and Ivan can also be regarded as one of the hero. Of course, like the dogs of Whitney and General Zarov, there are other characters at the beginning of the story.

Liam O'Flahtery wrote "Sniper" as a means to demonstrate the harsh reality and the complexity of war. "Sniper" shows the theme of war that turns humans into friends (or brothers) as things and enemies. When a sniper escaped the firepower of the enemy, he learned that the old lady was talking with the person in the armored car. The old lady revealed the hiding place of the sniper in a man in the armored car and then the sniper discovered that the old lady is actually an information provider. When a sniper shoots and kills an old lady, he does not think she is a man; a sniper thinks just that she is his enemy and a threat to his safety. Old ladies symbolize the capabilities of war to rob people from human beings and turn them into things and enemies. A sniper who is at risk is unlikely that the old lady is like him. The sniper's decision to kill a woman is because he needs to protect himself from enemy damage immediately.
