The purpose of accreditation is to standardize the quality of addiction prevention, intervention, treatment and ongoing care services. Through standardized testing, the committee can set benchmarks for professionals and monitor the ability to treat addicts. Because the NCC AP is associated with experts and people who use certificates on a daily basis, these tests are valued each year to ensure that they can handle up-to-date information on treating addictive diseases.

The National Addicting Certification Council (NCC AP) has created three major certificates for a poisoning consultant:
These certificates apply to different degrees of knowledge and formal training based on skills of substance use disabled experts.
