Catherine Barkley: Code Hero

Catherine Berkeley is a British army stationed in Italy's V.A.D. during the First World War of Hemingway's "Farewell Weapon". She started using this novel as a code hero. He is unusual for Hemingway because of the experience of women throughout their lifetime. In the novel, Katherine uses love, loyalty, and respect as her teaching ideology to express herself in her own way of living. At the end of the novel, when her birth died, her heroic identity was transferred to her lover, Frederick Henry. Catherine was mostly crazy about the ideal of being placed on the earth to serve men.

Catherine Berkeley is an English nurse working in front of Italians. Catherine began to enter Hemingway's philosophy, as the fiance before the affair of this book died prematurely, and as a whole reflects the characteristics of Hemingway code Heroes in the novel. Her main feature is that she disregards social customs and her firm dedication to Henry. Henry's friend, the young pastor of this department, features the faith in God and the ability to maintain a sneer for war. Priests often serve as consultants for Henry and explain the difference between love and desire and the waste of war. Despite its faith, the pastor is a person respected in the novel as its belief in God arises from deliberate choice, it is not used to escape the world.

At the beginning of the novel, Frederick Henry's idea was blinded by the pleasure of the senses, so he could not control himself. He has some features of the code hero, but his way of thinking is not completely a character of the code hero. After meeting Catherine Berkeley, he began to learn to train himself. Henry drank too much wine and a rogue at a brothel near his own town. Whatever he wants, he can not control his life. During a long stay at Ospidale Maggoire, he learned more about Catherine. His seashell hurt his leg and was hospitalized for a while. His time spent a long time at the hospital because he loved Catherine to help him take care of him. So Frederick woke up in a few hours and gazed at the mysterious darkness. Like a code hero, he is afraid of the darkness symbolizing death and evil. For a while, Katherine spent the night with her taking over night shift. She made her night so happy.

Frederick Henry, Hemingway's code hero, has evolved into a recognizable and understandable leader. With the help of Katherine, Henry became a hero of the code and a better person without knowing it. With the help of many events, Henry eventually became a code hero. On the last few pages, he noticed that he became a code hero, as he calmed down and responded to his serious situation in an orderly way like Katherine.
