For example, we can not produce computers unless we extract minerals, fossil fuels and other natural resources all over the world. One type of resource is a rare earth ore mainly mined in China (NRC, 2008). Mining of rare earth minerals produces up to 2,000 tons of solid waste per ton of rare earth mineral, including toxic heavy metals and radioactive cesium (Farago, 2009; Rong & Yu, 2009). In China, it also causes extensive sedimentation and contamination of topsoil erosion, erosion, and rivers and reservoirs for drinking and irrigation (Xu & Liu, 1999).

Mining work can be divided into 5 major categories based on their respective resources. These are oil and gas mining, coal mining, metal mining, nonmetallic mineral mining and quarrying, and mining support activities. In all these categories, oil and gas extraction is still one of the most important categories of the world economy. Exploring potential mining sites is an important concern for the mining industry and is currently using sophisticated new technologies such as seismic surveillance and remote sensing satellites. The mining industry is strongly influenced by the price of commodity minerals, and the price of commodity minerals is often unstable.
