Case report Peripheral stent grafts Acute hemifacial ischemia as a late complication of carotid stenting

Concerns about carotid artery stenting (CAS) have focused on surgical complications such as acute obstruction, stroke, and long-term internal restenosis. External carotid artery (ECA) thrombosis was observed during follow-up of CAS, but usually remains asymptomatic or in the worst case caused mandibular fistula. Here are reports of cases of late-onset ECA following CAS with acute ischemic symptoms and pain, purpura, tongue paralysis and cold skin. The patient underwent local thrombolysis and balloon angioplasty, and symptoms resolved after reopening. Through this report, we added a warning about ECA caliber blocking of CAS.
