Capital Punishment in Michigan

Most Americans use the death penalty; we should add one to the list to make Michigan the state that uses capital punishment. Some people think that it is a good idea to hand over the death penalty to Michigan. Other people think that it is stupid to do this, not just that they have to go to prison. A criminal who has just been released for murder can not kill other innocent people.

The first democracy in history to prohibit the death penalty is Michigan, which it did on March 1, 1847. The abolition of the death penalty for 160 years has never been abolished. In 1849, the first country forbidding the death penalty in the Constitution was the Roman Republic (later incorporated into Italy). Venezuela abolished the death penalty in 1863 and Portugal abolished the death penalty in 1867. The last execution in Portugal took place in 1846. International organizations, in particular the European Union (EU) and the European Commission have abolished capital punishment as a requirement for accession. The sixth protocol of the European Convention on Human Rights (which was abolished in peacetime) and the thirteenth protocol (which was abolished in all cases) forbade capital punishment. Every country that wishes to join the European Union must abolish the death penalty and the country that is trying to join the European Commission needs to either abolish the death penalty or declare at least a pause on the death penalty.

The United States has never received excessive death sentences so far, but has been banned for decades (the oldest is Michigan). In other states, the death penalty is actively used. The death penalty in the United States is still a controversial issue. Motivated by citizens actively discussing its merits, the United States is one of the few countries that is trying to abolish and maintain the death penalty. Death sentences of underage criminals (criminals under the age of 18 at the time of crime) are getting less and less. China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Yemen are the only countries that have executed juvenile crime since 1990. The Supreme Court of the United States of America, Thompson v. Oklahoma (1988) and Roper v. We abolished the death penalty for all youths in Simmons (2005).
