C. Wright Mills' The Promise

C. According to the "commitment" of Light Mills, he believes that private life and its behavior are based on society and what happens at that time. In his article, Mills pointed out that sociological imagination helps us understand each person's background, lifestyle, customs and traditions. It also makes it possible to understand the impact that society may have on people and how "historical" events can cause this effect. According to what he wrote, in order to understand this "imagination", we must be able to associate human public issues or personal problems with events occurring in society.

C. Light Mills is a theorist. According to Chasin (1990), "C. Wright Mills is a fundamental criticism of American society and sociology in this country" (337). In the middle of the century, Mills' criticism proved to be provocative though influential. Many people are reading his view. Although Mills is pessimistic, he can encourage people with knowledge to find basic social changes. Mills can stimulate many people in the field of sociology (Chasin, 1990)

Before answering these questions, you must clearly understand the definition of sociological imagination. C. Light Mills made this term popular in his thesis The Promise. Mills believes that sociological imagination essentially has the ability to 'master the society, biography and history, and the interaction between self and the world' (Mills 1959). It is the true core of sociological thinking that it is possible to distinguish individual 'problems' from larger social 'problems'. One of the best examples of separating these two phenomena is to look at the work market through personal concerns of relatives who lost their jobs in connection with a larger social problem of widespread unemployment. In many cases, individuals think that it is a personal problem that they are not adopted due to poor interview and lack of experience. Of course, this is a personal matter, but I can explain the current bigger social problem.
