Stereotype: Simplified standardization concepts, images, opinions or beliefs about individuals or groups. Stereotypes are qualities assigned to individuals or groups related to nationality, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status and gender. In most cases, they are all negative generalizations. Medical providers who can not distinguish personality within group are stereotypes (Purnell, 2008). Cross-cultural: an explanatory term meaning that concepts are common to all cultures such as crossing cultural boundaries, care, health, childbirth. Relationship between stereotypes and groups When gender stereotypes are defined, we distinguish between gender stereotypes and bias of gender. General stereotypes are defined as the cognitive expression of the cultural beliefs of members of the external group and general prejudice is seen as a negative emotional reaction of members of the external group (McConahay & Hough, 1976). Likewise, Arthur, Bigler, Liben, Gelman, and Rube (2008) define gender bias as a more influential factor in personal thinking about sex, including personal male and female perceptions .

Stereotypes, bias, and discrimination are understood as related but different concepts. Stereotypes are thought to be the most cognitive elements, usually happening without conscious awakening, prejudice is an emotional element of the stereotype, discrimination is one element of bias reaction. In this three-party view on attitudes between groups, stereotypes reflect expectations and beliefs about the characteristics of members of the group that are considered different from themselves.
