November 16th (Friday) Visiting artist Brooks Harris Stevens will give a lecture at Room 202 of Art Building 202.
Brooks Harris Stevens is an interdisciplinary artist and associate professor at the Fiber Research Institute of the University of Michigan in Epsilanten, Michigan. Her formal training began at Savanna University of Art and Design and continued to graduate from the University of Art Carolina at North Carolina State University of California. Creating a variety of work deeply rooted in the history of fabrics has always been an essential part of her life. Through material research, she created an interesting surface that can change various spaces. These activated spaces inform the observer of the material, space, form, and basic concepts. Brooks uses interdisciplinary techniques to create devices and works on 3D fibers, based on rewarding fiber media. Brooks' current research is focused on various cultural observations of rituals. She is currently developing adaptive rituals. This is a new work organization focused on combining studio customs with various cultural rituals. She is exhibiting at solo exhibitions and group exhibitions both in Japan and overseas. Stevens is preparing individual exhibitions and group exhibitions to be held in Tirana, Albania and Atlanta, Georgia.
