In the 1800s, Washington Irving was important to isolate the American literature from the UK. I wrote "Sketch Books" including stories such as "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Sleepy Hollow Legend". This is the first book popular among American writers outside the United States, and it helped to create American literature. In "Sleeping Hollow Legend" Owen skillfully used images originally written by Washington Irving and "The Legend of Sleeping Valley" novel and the movie "The Legend of Sleepy Valley." This legend includes a small town that is suffering from headless knights and male travels. Years later, this legend was made by a film directed by Tim Burton. Burton stealed the legendary title and added a thrill.

In "American Scholars" (1837), Ralph Waldo Emerson praised American literary progress and urged American writers to keep making their own courses.
