Therefore, the bride's price group girls are more likely to receive education. This model also predicts that families of the bride price group will respond most to policies such as school buildings aimed at improving women's education. Studying the INPRES school construction project in Indonesia and a similar project in Zambia, we found evidence consistent with this prediction. This program has no major impact on the education of girls without a group of brides, but has had a big positive impact on girls with bride groups. The findings highlight the importance of the marriage market as the driving force for educational investment and provide an example of how socio-cultural background is important to the effectiveness of development policy.
