11 million women in the United States suffer from eating disorders - self-induced semi-starvation (anorexia nervosa) or overdose of laxatives, self-induced emesis or excessive exercise (bulimia nervosa) (Dunn, 1992). Many eating disorder experts believe that a chronic diet is a direct result of social stress of American women and that makes it almost impossible to lose weight. The media has been criticized for stickiness and may even create criteria for embarrassing beauty taught by women to judge the value of their bodies (Stephens & Hill, 1994).
Body image of African-American women - The body image of African-American women is an important aspect in understanding eating disorders. The problem of body image is important in the etiology and treatment of eating disorders and obesity (Smith, Thompson, Raczynski and Hilner, 1997; Thompson, 1997). The structure of the body image reflects how satisfied human beings are in their bodies. Body image is multidimensional structure. It includes ethnicity, socio-economic status, age, and emotional and attitude factors.
For women with eating disorders, it is particularly difficult to treat body images. There are several concepts that experts can help treat women with body image problems. It is useful to evaluate the range of the first existing negative body image. An example of how to do this is to identify areas of love, such as women drawing the contours of the front and sides of their bodies, then disliking people and people who dislike different colors. Please cooperate with clients to deal with each field and explain the reasons for feeling this way in each field. In many cases, the negative problem of the body image arises from past experience of teasing. Young girls and women are focusing on negative reviews from families and colleagues. For example, I have a 17-year-old client being teased at "BBW cheek." Her cheek was sinking when she was anorexia, and she believed her family finally accepted her and cease teasing her.
The negative image of a woman is a very hot topic recently! It is a matter of controversy about the image of a woman 's body and what people should or should look like in marketing and advertising. It is worth noting that the female figure depicted on the mass media is gradually becoming smaller (1). Marketing staff will do whatever they can to profit by selling the product. You can sell almost anything if it seems attractive whether it is appealing to our beauty.
