It would be wonderful if the author could introduce this in more detail. I think that it is fun to say that this is a sign of wealth in culture, but with the height of the United States it involves stigma and discrimination. The reason for this is that food is usually more common in the United States than in other developing countries. Therefore, as a culture, we can limit the amount people should eat, but in other countries food is more necessary for survival than charm and social status.
The body image of an African American woman is an important aspect in understanding the phenomenon of eating disorders. The problem of body image is important in the etiology and treatment of eating disorders and obesity (Smith, Thompson, Raczynski and Hilner, 1997; Thompson, 1997). The structure of the body image reflects how satisfied human beings are in their bodies. Body image is multidimensional structure. - • Reproductive decisions depend on the couple and other family members and ancestral members. On the other hand, the result of determining the size of the family is dependent on the woman, because it is responsible for caring for the children of the marriage. In summary, family planning programs and reproductive health issues and services are specifically targeted at women (Nukunya, 1992).
Pain in physical images is often seen as a symptom of eating disorders. However, not all people with eating disorders have a physical image, and many people without eating disorders have bad image of the body. Then, how can you understand the relationship between the image of the body and eating disorders? The image of the body is a subjective image of the body of the person and it differs greatly from how you actually see the body. The image of the body is a complex structure consisting of beliefs, ideas, perception, emotions, and behavior. The way we see ourselves and our bodies affects our health, mental health, and human relations. The image of healthy body includes objective perceptions of human appearance and the ability to separate your value from appearance.
Eating disorders are complex mental illness caused by genetic and environmental factors - negative body images are only potential contributors. However, since many people with eating disorders emphasize their body shape and weight when deciding their own self-worth, negative body images stand out in eating disorders. This "overestimate of shape and weight", although it is a part, is not a symptom of all eating disorders. Human self-assessment is unduly affected by body shape and body weight, consistent with diagnosis of neurogenic anorexia or bulimia nervosa. Diagnosis of nervous anorexia is incompatible with not being able to recognize the weight or body severity of the person or the current low body weight.
